The Sunday Dive Club

Dive Report 10/4/09 Oregon 130ft

The Sunday Dive Club meet as usual in the chill of a 5:00 morning. Without hast we all scurried about to load the boat. We soon discovered a stow away was aboard. We grabbed him and his belongings and tossed him to the curb. There lied Bill Pfeiffer weary eyed and confused. He collected his things and wandered off down the road to the Sea Hawk. Maybe they would be friendlier.

We soon headed out into the channel to find the fog had set in thicker than pudding. With his eyes panning between the Radar and the GPS. Captain John G. once again proved he is the stuff legends are made of. The Lockness was piloted through the fog. Twisting and winding without incident through Loop bridge then out the Inlet. We quickly made way to the Oregon.

About half way out both engines died a slow starving death. With the skill of a diesel mechanic and the agility of a small fox Captain John diagnosed the problem took corrective action and soon both engines were humming a beautiful tune. Onward we trekked to the Oregon.

Once on top of the wreck the crew worked feverishly to get us tied in. The fog and engine trouble had set us back almost an hour. Every one was eager to get in the water. Our most courageous diver Natalie chose to jump with Vlad and supervised the tie in. She wanted to make sure all was done to the Clubs high stands. Vlad came through with flying colors once again. He is truly an asset to the Lockness crew.

The days conditions improved rapidly. The fog lifted, the sea remained calm, and we all got two excellent dives. Many lobsters and scallops came up. Captain John and Vlad each found a piece of Chamber Pot, now they can truly say they have a pot to piss in. Fred and John I. each found a dish and I'm sure I've forgotten others. It was a great day for diving and was enjoyed by all !

The shining star of the day was Captain John G. He was hitting solid all day. He got us through the fog and solved the engine problem. He had a great dive and found some china. Now that's why he is a legend in the dive community. Thank You Captain John G.

The Sunday dive club will not be diving Sunday October 11th. The Lockness will have an open day so call Captain John if you want to get out.

The Club will return to the Lockness Sunday October 18th and we will go back to the Oregon. Contact me as usual.

Check out the Clubs new Website at www.sundaydiveclub.com

It has come to my attention that I forgot a few details.

1) Jim B. was the winner of the days lobster crown.
2) Andy also gathered some china off the Oregon.
3) I fell asleep, Freddy thought I passed out. It must have been the conversation.
4) We were 20 minutes delayed in getting back because I was longer in the water than expected, my apologies to you all.
5) It was an extremely great day of diving.

Thank You all!
Dive Report 9/20/09 Linda 140ft

sorry it so late this report but i was out in montauk fishing and no access to a computer or phone really.

on with the report...

sunday was a beautiful morning.  flat sea's, clear sky,  and cool air.  something we have not had in quite some time and we deserved.  when we arrived at the linda there was another dive boat there (a little 6 pack) with divers already in the water.  that served as a problem so we did not drop any chain on them.  capt. "crotchstrap" carmen  attempted to get kevin g.  on the wreck without hurting anyone under, but we were too far off.  kevin upon surfacing was not in such a great mood.  and the rest of the day would follow...it was a long tie in but eventually we were ready for business and divers were in and ready to fill their bags with lobsters, and scallops. the viz was not so good but the water was very warm and lots to hunt for.  the first dive turned out to be the most rewarding with anthony gaining the loster crown again with a very large 1.  vacume ken cleaned up the ocean floor and left it spick and span of scallops and and the rest of us took some scraps.  i decided not to run a line on this dive and a mistake it was.  i attempted to go up on a bad when i found laura and she led me back to the anchor line of which i was very close to.  before we left though my bag was freed and floated away.  i felt my life is better than a bag and i realy did not want to go up on it anyway.  after surfacing i saw the bag floating far away and figured i would never see it again.
i was not the only one who decided that day to not run a line a go up on a bag.  kevin g and his freind (sorry i forgot it already) also took a wrong turn and too little gas and too far from our boat.  to make a long story short.  he had a really bad day and vlad is an AMAZING swimmer.    everyone safe and sound we headed back in for a late day.  but to my surprise i heard some yelling that my bag had been found 3 hours later....i couldn't still be floating?  ....yes and capt. crotchstrap and his merry crew found it for me!  who was happier than me....i can say no one..well maybe anthony he did get to wear his favorite jeweled crown.

pics will be attached to next weeks pics ..sorry gotta get to laundry before i get back into work mode.            happy and safe diving           nat

Dive Report 09/12/09 Oregon 130ft

OH MY GOD!!!!

i am like a proud mother today!  today the sunday dive club had 1 of the best days EVER!  flat sea's, great viz (easily 50 ft), warm water (70's) and lots of great finds.  i don't think i could have asked for more other than it be ing me who found these stellar artifacts.  after dive #1 one jay came up with what we believe to be a silver and ruby ring!  he found it while going after a lobster.  during the surface interval john was cooking away maria's fantastic goodies when we heard a cry for help.  kevin s(clothes and shoes on). jumped in to help the distressed diver and brought him safely back on board with the help of big dave.  and as  a reward for there good deeds .... kevin was given the good fortune of finding a beautiful water decanter completely intact that even oregon pat rooney was wetting his pants.  dave and doug were also rewarded with 2 nice size port holes.  what to say other than it was fantastic to see these great finds and be so happy and proud of my friends. oh did i mention the decanter will be living in my china cabinet temporarily).  as for the rest  of the happenings.  wes broke out the inverted 104's and then tried john's rebreather, very shortly after surfacing and not being to happy with the lack of his own (possibly stolen) rebreather. all the legands were on board..john, freddie, pat and wes.  jim was awarded the lobster crown but i don't think he actually wore it.  i don't think i have ever seen such a great day!            so on that note don't miss next week on the linda!                                                          happy and safe diving            natalie

hello boys and girls

2  dive report's

sat. 8/1/09  the lockness hosted the aquawomen's yearly bash.  i was lucky enough to crew that day and get to meet all the fabulous women i have heard so much about.  we where schedualed to go to the deigo, but do to the big swells in the morning we stayed closer to home and hit th lizzie.  the wreck was also a first for me and probably my last.  but the visibility was decent about 15ft and the water was nice and warm.  a few girls even went for a swim.  even capt john brought out his new bathing suit and secured his place as a true and one and only legend in my heart.  (as soon as the pics suface i will send them)  after 2 dives and many margaritas we hearded back to john's home were pat had the party started and waiting for us.  we also had another brave man in his new suit bill from lida (he really enjoyed the new suit and i think will be wearing it often.  i must say i was a great honor for me to be on board with some of the great women of the northeast.  i have been trying to do this mare many years and was so thankful to have been there.  not only are they good divers but great people too!  thanks ladies!

now for the deigo report for the sunday divers.8/2/09

it was ok weather headed out to the deigo.  we had quite a few new people to our group this week.  2-4 students, sweet racheal on crew,  and a few of the saturday guys came,  plus we picked up some of the garloo's guys that were sitting on the dock waiting  and last but not least our old friend CONN.  GEORGE.  capt. wes was at the helm and john b and vlad on crew also. the sun was not out most of the day so it was a bit chilly, but the waqter was good a believe 56 on the bottom.  current was mild and the vis on the bottom was amazing i thouhgt.  surface vis was terrible and all i could hear during my hang was jaws in my head.   i believe all the divers got 2 dives in just in time because the thunderstorm came rolling in made the ride home not as plesant as usual.  but we made do and fed everone just the same.  anthony and kevin shared bbq duty. anthony of course did his usual 1 for me 1 for you as he cooked.  and a good thing for racheal, because we dossed him and took away his ole ta do da day.  nothing much onthe lobster and scallop report.  i believe kevin was the only one with a lobster and vlad got 1 scallop.  i was lucky enough to get a guilded tour by capt. wes and i went inside a bit.  who knows may be i willl start to like this wreck.  well enough of all this i will see you all nest week.

we are headed to the stolt on sunday so i believe there are a few spots still open.  call john cassara or emial either one of us if interesed.

p.s. who took my shrimp????????             happy and safe diving!       nat

Dive Report 07/26/09 G&D 125ft

it was 3 days of wondering if we would go out this week.  the forcast was not in our favor, but the big o was a calling.  as i approached the dock waiting to hear bad news, i was amazed.  we are going.  capt wes who hates the bad seas as much as me has gone along with all our votes to at least   check the inlet before we say no.  we are not going to the o but still another fav.  the G&D.   mate kevin was not in favor of going at all he thought we were all crazy.  and well we are.

the tide was very very low so boarding was a team effort.  then the seahawk called and waved us on so we couild be the ones to say if it was a go.  as we approach the bridge we get a call from the tower ...not sure of the exact words....are you crazy?  i hope you make it back.  we continued on.  then engine trouble.  capt wes turned the wheel to kevin and went down to fix it.  if that was not enough to make us turn around we now have severve thunder and lightiining.  but we keep going.  and made it.  but it was a lot of vomit day.  i have kept it together for the hole season so far, but this was the breaker.  we all agreed we would do 1 dive and go.  well we could have done 2 if dumb and dumber ( me and john c)  had not hung on the anchor line (NEW, BEAUTIFUL, LARGE ANCHOR LINE) for 40 min.  whick was completely my fault.

there was the usual crowd and a few return passangers,  capt. wes , kevin and vlad for crew.  not a lot of scallops but a few lobsters.  not too many to talk about though. andy was the chef for this week and from what i chewed on it all was fantastic.  over all i think most were happy with the day.  happy and safe diving !            nat

another great day at sea!  who could ask for more?  it started out a little rough but the seas calmed by mid day.  kevin g. suggested the urma c so we went and concord.   tons of scallops and a tie for biggest lobster between kevin g. and anthony, and ken.  the water was warm and very clear.  everyone enjoyed their dives and i think everyone got something.  then we headed over to the yankee.  another fav.  not so many scallops but a few lobsters.  much colder and darker.  anthony was chef for the day as you could see from the pics from freddie.  he thought if he dressed like a girl he might get to dive as crew.  no such luck for him.  it was great to see freddie on board.  it reminded me of the old days.  with that i would like to call out all the old seahunter crew and customers to come for a seahunter day.  we are headed to the oregon next week and i know that is a fav for most of you.   you know who you are...sammy, george, rich, mark, john, phil, louie, alec....etc.  all of the rest i see most every sunday and will hope you to be there too.  i promise it will be a good time and hope that you all can make it.

hi all

the sunday dive club is blessed!  we have had fantastic weather and great old friends are coming out of the wood work,  plus the new freinds that have been joining us each week.  on a personal note i would like to thank all of you fellow divers for getting me into diving and teaching me all different things and helping me when i am under the weather.  its because of all of you i keep diving!

on with the dive report...it seems the sunday crowd had a much better day than saturday.  we headed out to the g&d (the old yankee?i think) and it was a beautiful morning.  kevin tied in beautifully as always.  seas were calm, water warm almost 50 on the bottom, currents easy, viz ok 15-20 ft.  the usual great was all there GLENN is back in action!  so as you would assume the scallops on board were many.  vlad, ken, and glenn did the most and kevin and i took a stab at it as a team.  its amazing they are a lot easier to get than lobster they don't hurt.  unless you went after the infamous 20 ld. scallop in the boiler.  mate kevin and myself tied for the lobster crown.  john c.'s swife maria cooked us a fabulous feast ( i would like to have my own maria)  and kevin, jim, and myself helped cook it.  it was a puke free day by all.  THE SHOE did strike again!  i had to cut him and his spear gun out of my wreck reel line and then cut him out of the mono he was still in.then while andy and i where enjoying anice quite dco stop the SHOE pulled the whole line up with him and almost took any and i out of the water.  lesson learned stay away from the shoe. on the second dive capt. wes decided he would help john b. by putting his deco bottle on the bottom for him with no line.  then i believe his reel was sent in after it.  vlad was to the rescue... he found johns deco bottle and i dont' know what happened to the reel.  never a dull moment. after that it was smooth sailing and had a great ride home. we even had a very nice bubble watcher lindsey come out and she seemed to like us!  anthony of course had to try out a little of is ole to do da day on her but as usual she resisted.  it appeared to be a great day for all!

we are now going out on the 12th and looking to go to the oregon maybe.  we will need more people though so if interested call john cassara or me or email.

it was a beautiful day out at sea!  the sunday dive club went out with a lobster and scallop mission and it was fufilled on the Yankee.  ken and the father son team (wes & vlad) filled the boat with scallops.  as for lobsters there were plenty, but only i stood out this week with a the lobster crown. i don't work for the post office but i would say 6/7 lbs, another3/4lbs, and another 2lbs.  i don't mean to brag but it doesn't happen often so i will brag.  anthony eat your heart out.

the surface current was quite strong on the first dive, but ok on the bottom and so was the vis.  currents died down as the second dive went and the vis also increased.  water was nice, about 45 deg.  and i know, because i did 45 min.  with an open fluded dry suit

the sun came out and a beautiful ride back.  kevin at the grill and everyone ate away.  its great to see old and new faces and some returning new friends to the group.  diving is not just about the dive its about the freinds we meet and hopefully don't need to see naked(all on board today will know)

.... and i would like to request some new rules as follows:(ONLY SUPER HOT AND INSHAPE PEOPLE CAN WALK AROUND IN THEIR UNDERWEAR!!!!this means if you are not in vogue magazine keep your clothes on!!!)

next week we are going to the rc mohawk for all of those who are interested in a nice bottle dive and not to deep.  to book you can email me or call john cassara or email.

week 2 of the sunday dive club season.  we headed out to the famous oregon in the cloudy and drizzly morning.  the boat was missing some of our usual guys but some new friends filled their spots and some old friends came out to play too!  as usual capt wes and crew (pat, vlad, mike and bill)  got us tied in quickly and opened the pool for the kids.  everyone had a nice diving day.  i believe there were some utencils brought up and lots of nice lobster stories.  anthony was the lobster king for the day and proudly wore his crown.  kevin was in second place and andy with the 3rd and 1st lobster catch.  (photos attatched from kevin).  after the second dive i cooked away and helped feed the boys.  after that the sun came out and we all got to soak up some sun for the ride in.  another great day at sea with freinds!
happy father's day to all that apply and i will see you all soon!

a brief report:

we set off to the san diego on the lockness as usual then a little delay with the engine's.  but not to worry our fearless captain john gorman was there to handle it.  a smooth tie in by vlad who of course stole all the lobsters and only left egg filled one's for the rest of us.  although i did see kevin with 2 so may it was just me.  we had our first official student day and as far as i could tell they seemed to have a good time.  anthony and john c.'s planning worked out very smoothly and comfortable for all.  plus we had music!!!  ken brought a great mix of treats and kevin was chef for the day .seas were calm, clear, and warm!  a great start to hopefully another great season!  then after we all finished our last dive gus pulled the chain and we had a speedy ride back in.  hope to see you all this summer!
